So you have pickled what seems like the perfect ring for your soon to be wife. While it was difficult finding the right ring, of course it does not get any easier from that point on. From paying for it, to finding the right moment to propose… the process is not quite complete. You also have to worry about sizing the ring. How are you going to do so without giving away the surprise? It may seem like a tricky answer, but it isn’t as difficult as it seems.

Get her to try on another ring in order to get the proper measurements. You are lucky if she already wears a ring because then you can just wait for her to take it off so you can measure it. You can trace it on a piece of paper (when she is not looking of course!)

You can also try and make a joke that is not suspecting. Pretend to ask for her hand in marriage with a ring from a vending machine, or the plastic that is around soda bottles. She will have no idea that what you really did was measure her ring size.
There are many things you could do to measure it without having her raise a suspicious eyebrow. You could try and wrap something around her finger. Try the people who work at the jeweler store for ideas.

Of course… there is her mom. Its likely that she will know the ring size of her daughter, and if you decide to go the traditional route by asking the parents for her hand in marriage .. then you will have no problem getting the ring size. Lets hop that her mom is good at keeping secrets now.

Most men don’t really get the ring size off by much at all. If it is a little big that’s fine.. of course its always more of a problems if the ring runs too small for her. You could always take the ring to a jeweler store later on and ask them to resize it for you, but of course its best to avoid that all from the beginning.

A big question many of us have is how much to spend on the wedding ring. This question can’t really be answered as easily as you may want. The decision is really a personal one that will be made by the couple. Yes it’s typically the man that will make the physical purchase, but that purchase will affect both members of the family, as they will share their finances.

There is this notable “two month salary” rule that some use. For this rule, the buyer spends just that, two months worth of a salary on the wedding ring purchase. Certainly, this is an arbitrary statement, as there is no need to spend this much on the ring. Certainly, you do not need to become indebted to buy the ring. A large diamond, an expensive ring, is not a marker or indicator of your love or commitment, and neither of you should feel that way. If you have the money to buy such a ring, it is no doubt a flattering suggestion, but it is certainly not make or break here.

The average cost of a ring is about 3,500 to 4,000. The price will of course vary greatly! It will vary with the size and the quality of the diamond as well as how complex the design is. People don’t really spend more than 5,000 on rings, and unless your man is wealthy… don’t expect it. Further, you should encourage your husband to be reasonable, about the ring. Don’t play it off that you are expecting a huge diamond. Further, remember that those vendors are very persuasive, make sure he does not fall in for it.

The size of the diamond will not predict the size of the marriage. This cannot be emphasized enough! Before you do purchase that ring, whatever your budget, make sure you shop around first. Get an idea of what close others around you have done. I say that with caution though if you plan to take this into some sort of competition because this is certainly not what it is.

An important thing is not to stress to much about the ring… this is probably one of the least of your worries as you prepare for the future.
